Hemorrhoids, definition and cause
Hemorrhoids are a group of vessels in the rectum that extend from an internal area beneath the lining of the anal canal to the outer rim of the anus. They play a key role in the proper functioning of the sphincters by controlling the release of feces and urine.
The term hemorrhoids is commonly used to describe any condition that affects these vessels. Often benign and not serious, hemorrhoids manifest as bleeding and irritation that are mostly bothersome, although temporary. However, when these situations recur, they cause more serious problems and indicate a critical development.
Hemorrhoids are the most common anal disease. They affect both men and women and are most common in adults between the ages of 40 and 65.
Certain factors such as pregnancy, repeated constipation, alcohol consumption, a sedentary lifestyle or the practice of certain sports promote their appearance.
Hemorrhoidal diagnosis and ligations
Appropriate medical treatment can usually cure hemorrhoids. The doctor recommends medications such as laxatives, veinotonics, painkillers, or anti-inflammatories, while also reminding people of healthy eating habits.
If these treatments fail and the hemorrhoids become critically advanced, surgical treatment is required. Hemorrhoidal ligation falls into this category. This procedure is generally performed under light general anesthesia and requires no more than half a day of hospitalization.
LEM, the innovative device for hemorrhoidal ligations
The LEM is a functional medical device designed to perform hemorrhoidal ligation surgery. This patented device is single-use and comes in two different versions: suction or traction. Featuring an ergonomic handle, both models are equipped with a 10mm diameter cylinder. The LEM was designed to provide the surgeon with the best viewing angle.
The suction LEM has a hole at the bottom of the handle to connect a medical vacuum cleaner. As for the traction LEM , although visually identical to the previous one, it combines a traction forceps to remove the hemorrhoidal nodule.
